Intel International Science & Engineering Fair
The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) is the world's largest pre-college celebration of science. Held annually in May, the Intel ISEF brings together over 1,500 students from more than 65 nations to compete for scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific field trips and the grand prize: a $50,000 college scholarship. The international fair will be held in Phoenix, Arizona on May 12-17 at the Phoenix Convention Center.
Science Service founded the ISEF in 1950 and is very proud to have Intel as the title sponsor of this prestigious, international competition.
The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) provides an opportunity for the best young scientists from around the globe to share ideas, showcase cutting-edge science projects, and compete for over $4 million in awards and scholarships.
Society for Science and Public
Founded in 1921, Society for Science and Public's mission is to advance public understanding and appreciation of science among people of all ages through publications and educational programs. A non-profit organization based in Washington, DC, Science Service has encouraged students, parents, teachers, and communities to explore the vast world of science. Science Service began the task of promoting science education early in its 83-year history with "Radio Adventures in Science;" hands-on experiments for students, called "Things of Science;" administration of Science Clubs of America; and finally, the evolution of two of the most prestigious competitions in pre-college science. Through publications and programs, science fairs and scholarship competitions, Science Service helps young people utilize and strengthen their knowledge in science, math, and engineering. Many credit these experiences as a decisive factor in choosing a scientific career.
The Intel-Affiliated Contra Costa Science & Engineering Fair
Contra Costa businesses joined with K-12 educators to establish an Intel-affiliated Science & Engineering Fair in Contra Costa County in 2006. It was a great success and the sixth annual event was held on March 15 through 17, 2011 at the recently-completed science building at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg. For 2013, the Science & Engineering Fair will once again be held at Los Medanos College, on March 21, 22 and 23, 2013.
Before 2006, Contra Costa students interested in competing in the International Science & Engineering Fair were required to compete in the Intel-Affiliated San Francisco Bay Area fair.
An Intel ISEF-affiliated science fair is a science competition that is a member of the Intel ISEF network. These competitions exist in every state in the U.S. and 40 countries. All Intel ISEF-Affiliated science fairs register with Science Service and must consist of five participating high schools or 50 students in the 7th-12th grades.
Fairs are conducted at local, regional, state and national levels. The winners of the Contra Costa Science & Engineering Fair (CCSEF) go on to compete in the International Science & Engineering Fair each spring. In 2013, the Intel International Fair will be held in Phoenix, Arizona.
A limited number of student winners may also be asked to participate in the California State Science Fair competition in 2013.
